Practical aspects of the evolution of economic thought

Abstract

Економіка, як і будь-яка інша соціальна наука, зосереджена на вивченні характеристик людської поведінки в економічному житті суспільства. Щоб пояснити людську поведінку, економісти протягом століть намагалися створити певний формалізований опис – характеристику основних якостей та способів дії економічних агентів у процесі взаємодії з іншими економічними суб'єктами. Саме тому з самого початку свого виникнення економічна теорія спиралася на модель «економічної людини», тобто індивіда, який у процесі діяльності взаємодіє з іншими суб'єктами в ринкових умовах. Створення такої моделі було зумовлене необхідністю вивчення проблеми вибору та мотивації у фінансово-економічній діяльності індивідів. Economics, like any other social science, focuses on studying the characteristics of human behavior within the economic life of society. In order to account for human behavior, economists have attempted over centuries to create a certain formalized description‒ a characterization of the main qualities and the modes of action of economic agents in the process of interacting with other economic subjects. That is why, from the very beginning of its emergence, economic theory relied on the model of the “economic man,” that is, an individual who, in the process of activity, interacts with other subjects under market conditions. The creation of such a model was driven by the need to study the problem of choice and motivation within individuals’ financial and economic activity.
